Additionally to this, companies are starting to, but need to crack down on thinking of more sustainable ways of packaging food. Another concept I came up with was a coffee cup graveyard. Coffee cups are made with glossed over cardboard so the liquid doesn’t dissolve the material. Most people think these aren’t recyclable, they are, they just need to be recycled in the right way. The majority of people will put them in general waste bins just for the convenience. Some attempt to recycle them, putting them in paper or mixed recycling, because they are glossed over cardboard this will not mean they are recycled. Just think of how long it takes to drink a cup of coffee! Ten minutes? Maybe an hour? Then think of the impact of that one cup, it adds up perhaps it is bought three or four times in a week. Then think of all the other people that do the same. Imagine, just imagine the pile at the end of one singular day if they were all kept together. It is one of the most unsustainable industries. This is just one example, there are many more. I often question why every time I buy a lettuce it is in plastic, it doesn’t grow in plastic. Basil and other herbs, why can people not be taught the basics of how to look after plants in schools and have potted herbs instead of buying plastic packets of them?
